Coachella envy

My love is in California for Coachella so I am listening to lots of Fever Ray as consolation.

Their performance at Royal Festival Hall last year was one of the best live shows...ever.

Alice Anderson @ The Riflemaker Gallery

Earlier this week I visited the Alice Anderson show at the Riflemaker Gallery on Beak Street.

The exhibition is visible before you enter the building - a swathe of copper hair hangs from the balcony window before entering the ground floor above the doorway.

A cold air blew up the creaky wooden candlelit stairs that descend to the basement gallery, helping to set the scene for this memorable show of video and installation.

Influenced by her unusual and somewhat traumatic childhood, Anderson has created something haunting and unique. It's part rapunzel tale with a dash of 'Psychoville' maternal horror rounded off with an Eraserhead-esque soundtrack. Weird goodness.

Sandgate

Last Saturday my gorgeous twin sisters and I went to Doug's for a takeaway feast of sweet lip, potato scallops and king prawns which were as long as my hand.

We sat under the trees and talked for hours, following our meal with a quickly-melting 'have-a-heart' icecream, just like when we were kids. It was a memorable day and one of the highlights of my trip.

Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA)

The Gallery of Modern Art in Brisbane is currently showing ATP6, an excellent exhibition of Asian and Pacific Contemporary Art. Featuring more than 100 artists, the works fill the entire gallery space. It finishes this weekend so if you're in Brisbane, definitely check it out. Entry is free for this one.

Also showing is the Stephen Jones exhibition (Hats: An Anthology), which started its tour at the London V&A last year. There are some beautiful creations in this show and it made me wonder why I don't wear hats more often.

Don't the sun look good today

Arrived back in London after two weeks in my antipodean hometown. It was a bittersweet trip for many reasons and this song by The Go-Betweens brings a little Brisbane sunshine whenever I need it.
