On my way...

Nahm @ The Halkin

Due to the unpredictability of my last job, I had surrendered two bookings at Nahm, the renowned Thai restaurant run by David Thompson. Today, the boy surprised me with a lunchtime reservation and I was suitably impressed.

We started with fresh pineapple and warm chicken and tamarind followed by mains of crab stir fry and pad thai. Every ingredient was fresh and the flavours were light, crisp and aromatic.

The surrounds were elegant and peaceful (plus ultra-flattering light is always welcome) while service was generous and incredibly efficient. For a special occasion, Nahm well and truly hits the spot.

The Antlers @ Union Chapel

On Wednesday evening, I had the pleasure of seeing The Antlers in the beautiful surrounds of the Union Chapel, my favourite venue in London. I can't think of anywhere with the same combination of incredible acoustics, full seating, reasonable ticket prices, and the option to have a cup of tea between bands. Very important.

They played all the songs from 'Hospice', their heart-wrenching concept album reflecting on the illness and loss of a loved one. The arrangements were more subdued and pared-down than the album versions but worked perfectly in this venue.

It was a soaring and moving performance and there were many moments where I felt a lump in my throat. Just gorgeous.
